85% of Connecticut is Transgender...
Close Window
SAY WHAT???
Typically when one refers to Transgender they call up negative stereotypes
and images, which are amplified by Media’s negative sensationalism
of the Trans-Identified person and community. In reality however,
Gender is and has been fluid throughout civilization. We have only
to look around us: at work, at home, on the street, at church and
even at the mall to realize that the Gender Stereotypes of masculine
and feminine are routinely challenged. Stereotypical gender
conventions are: Women wear dresses, Men wear pants, Women have
long hair, Men have short hair, Girls play with dolls, Boys play
with toy guns, Women are sensitive, Men are tough, Women are weak,
Men are strong. Yet reality is: Women can have short hair, Men can
have long hair, Women can be tough, Men can be sensitive, Girls can
play with toy guns, Boys can play with dolls, Women can wear pants,
however, Men still cannot wear dresses without being ridiculed or
worse!
So in reality maybe 15% of Connecticut residents exhibit the conventional
gender stereotypes of Masculine and Feminine while many, including
our youth,
TRANSgress the
GENDER
Binaries and are by definition ...
TRANSGENDER!!!
